In 1972, as a high school student, Michael Kohli began teaching dance in the basement of her parent's home.
Miss Michael's School of Dance operated in Storm Lake and Cherokee, Iowa for 5 years. After high school Michael studied extensively in New York before attending the University of Iowa where she graduated with a BA in Dance. Dance of Iowa City was founded in 1981. When her studios grew to Coralville and Cedar Rapids the name was changed to Dance of Iowa. Thirty-five years later and 20,000 students later, Michael developed the first ballet, jazz, and tap franchise based on her experience and National Dance Academy was created in 2006. National Dance Academy firmly believes that no matter what you choose to achieve in your future, dancing will enrich your life by developing a sense of rhythm, balance, timing, coordination and self-discipline as a basis for lifelong self-expression.
